As you sit on the front porch of Erehwon Retreat, you’re transported to years gone by, when life was simpler and time moved slower. Close your eyes as you sit on the expansive wrap-around porch with eaves and you can almost hear the whir of the motor of a Model T rambling down an unpaved road or the neighbor stopping by for a chat. In the 1920s, the bungalow was in its heyday and our home harkens back to those glory days.
From the minute you walk in the front door, you’ll notice each room has been lovingly restored, with touches from the arts and crafts era like arches, columns, twelve foot ceilings and original waterfall lights. The built-in bookshelves, next to the massive fireplace, contain all the Harvard Classics and the complete works of Shakespeare for your reading pleasure.
Even with all nostalgic features, you’ll still get modern conveniences such as Wi-Fi, washer and dryer, dishwasher, off-street parking and light housekeeping every third day.
When it comes time to eat, head to the gorgeous and well-stocked kitchen where you’ll always find all the basics for a quick snack or gourmet meal. We stock the pantry and fridge with cereal, pancake mix, spices, soda, butter, milk, Florida OJ, tea, coffee and more.
The thoughtful touches continue into the bathroom, where you’ll find a towel warmer and luxurious custom-made Erewhon Retreat tea olive soap, made from the plants found around the home.
At night, lay your head down on the plush mattresses and fall asleep on luxurious Egyptian cotton sheets. Choose from either of the queen bedrooms, one with en suite that includes a tub and shower. There is a second, large master bath, also with tub and shower and a pull out couch in the den.
Even the backyard invokes feelings of another era, when gardens were a sense of pride for homeowners. Meander through the well-kept yard, smelling and enjoying the vibrant colors of the numerous native Florida plants. Grab a book and find a spot of shade under the 90-year-old camphor trees and laurel oaks. In the evening hours, guests of the both the cottage and the bungalow gather on the deck, swapping stories of the day and enjoying the company of the property cat, Thomas.

Henry made us feel very welcome, explaining the workings of his wonderful home, and as a bonus, the history, as well! Super comfy beds, a great historic neighborhood filled with wonderful restaurants and restored homes, and a friendly host. We truly enjoyed our stay!
A Wonderful Holiday
Heike and Rolf – 5/12/2016
Google Translation – We spent 2 weeks in April in Tampa and had this property booked on HoAp directly. After a few other trips to Florida over during the past years, this was a completely new experience for us. A wonderful house built in the 1920s with interior decoration from this period. Otherwise everything you expect from an individual and clean accommodation. The surrounding area is worth seeing and reached by foot. Everything in the immediate vicinity, but also other destinations such as botanical gardens, beaches, shopping mall’s museums in a short drive. These and other tips from the owner if you want this. For us a wonderful holiday, that too fast came to an end, unfortunately.
Cozy 2 rooms bungalow, 15mins to Tampa downtown
Luc – 4/22/2016
I’ve stayed more than a week at Henry’s “EREHWON” Arts & Craft Bungalow and I really enjoy my time there. The house is well located in a quiet street around 15 min to downtown by car. The place is shiny-clean, warmly decorated and cozy, just like the photos. Henry’s hospitality was fantastic, he even wrote notes giving information on everything around. In my case, everything was perfect and I don’t have any negative point to put in my review. It was a pleasure to meet Henry and I got some good time talking with him about life, the universe and everything. I highly recommend Henry’s bungalow for professionals working in downtown as little family with kids looking for a nice and safe place to stay.
